Setting up FAQs
Primarily a livestock farm, Tincher house has laying chickens (several breeds, including Dominique, Easter Egger, and Sapphire Gems), Kune Kune heritage pigs, Butternut Bourbon heritage turkeys, and Guinea hens.
We also intend on expanding our gardens each year- to offer limited edition heirloom produce for sale (coming in 2024).
Free Range is a term used commercially and now is a legal definition meaning no cages are used in raising the livestock. But did you know that "free range" does NOT guarantee an animal gets to forage or sees the light of the sun? The legal definition includes chickens and other livestock who live their lives indoors in a barn under artificial light.
We believe the old, natural way is better. We let our chickens raise chicks. We let our pigs root in the dirt outside. They all get forage, sun, rain, fresh air, and exercise as a daily practice. This is what we mean by pasturing. We put our animals out to pasture every day.
Pasturing means healthier meat and eggs (studies show meat and eggs that include wild foraged food, sunshine and fresh air are higher in omegas, among other health benefits). This also means happier animals and getting away from factory farms that cause misery in animal populations, health problems in consumers, and ecological damage to our planet.
Start getting to know your farmer, where your food comes from, and the quality of lives the animals you consume. It makes a difference!
